Davide Padoa, CEO, Design International; Rupert Jaeger, HoC, Design International; Stuart Shield, Chairman, International Property Awards
Head of Communications, Design International
London, UK; July 2010 - June 2015

Design International (DI) is an award winning architectural firm with a history spanning over 50 years and large-scale projects worldwide. Originally founded in Toronto, Canada, in 1965, Design International today has its headquarters in London, UK, and offices in Milan, Shanghai and Jakarta. Specialising in mixed-use, retail and hospitality developments, DI works across 7 integrated divisions: Architecture, Masterplanning, Interior Design, Lighting Design, Landscape Design, Branding & Signage, and Leasing.

Rupert Jaeger joined Design International in September 2008, originally in a role combining (graphic) design with communications work. At the time, the firm was undergoing a period of change, after the Italian architect Davide Padoa had come in a few years earlier as new CEO of DI, who brought in a new creative outlook and who also wanted the firm to project a more personality focused public image.

To fully support this new direction, Rupert Jaeger set up – over a period of two years – a dedicated communications department with a small team of designers and communications professionals. In 2010, he was promoted to global Head of Communications. Under Rupert's leadership, the communications department was instrumental in this period to raise Design International's public image and firmly position it as one of the most innovative and successful players in the architecture and retail property world.

Notable achievements were the setting up of a new company website in 2010, along with the general overhaul of the brand perception; a series of successful industry award submissions starting in 2009, including the MIPIM Awards 2012 for Best Shopping Centre (Morocco Mall) and the Global RLI awards for Designer of the year 2013; and increased coverage in industry publications, including Retail and Leisure International, REurope or Retail ME.

As Head of Communications, Rupert's personal responsibilities included the coordination of all international trade show events (UK, USA, Europe, Asia and the Middle East), the attendance of corporate events as spokesperson, PR and press coordination, management of award submissions, writing and editing of all corporate literature and PR material, management of media and press relations, as well as the regular upkeep of the company website and the coordination of Social Media activities. Rupert also worked closely with the Head of Business development, in particular to support the production of high profile bid proposals and other strategic documents.

In addition, Rupert also led a number of PR and Marketing campaigns for selected projects on behalf of the company's clients, such as Centerfalls, a Luxury Designer Outlet Resort in Beirut, Lebanon, and Cleopatra Mall, a Retail, Leisure and Entertainment Complex in Cairo, Egypt.
